An exploration of issues in current peatland management in Ireland

On 11th, 12th and 13th October 2022 the Irish Peatland Society is organising a road trip to study the issues which currently confront peatland management in Ireland. The programme for this 3-day study tour will include visits to some 8 peatland sites located in the midlands and Mayo. The tour will start and finish in Tullamore, Co. Offaly with two overnight stops in Westport, Co. Mayo. Presentations from relevant experts will take place on each site and will address issues such as: Restoration; Conservation; Farming on peatland; Forestry on peatland; Peatland archaeology; Community involvement in peatland management; Issues facing the use of peat in horticulture; Carbon fluxes on peatland.

The Peatland Road Trip is organised by the Irish Peatland Society (IrPS) ion association with the Peatlands Gathering.
